An island theme runs through the patio at this Coast Highway gelato counter, with outdoor tables meant for eating a scoop slowly rather than carrying it off. The shop traces back to Bottega Italiana, a gelateria three Italian founders opened in Seattle's Pike Place Market in 2003. David Arato later brought the recipes to San Diego County, where he still hand-crafts each one across four locations including this one and a sister shop in Coronado. Espresso is on the menu too, for whoever isn't in the mood for gelato.
