(2)About this spot
On our list of the best dessert spots in San Diego.
Three native Italians opened the first Bottega Italiana gelato counter in Seattle's Pike Place Market in 2003, and the Coronado outpost followed in 2006. The building mixes Craftsman woodwork with an industrial edge, and gelato is churned on-site in small batches from produce that's in season, then set out with a bar and standing-room counter modeled on an Italian gelateria. Roughly 20 flavors rotate daily, classics like chocolate and strawberry alongside a raspberry rose and a black vanilla made with activated charcoal, scooped into a cup, cone or house-made waffle bowl. The counter also pours coffee from Caffe Calabria.
