Los Angeles County Museum of Art - LACMA

Split off from the Los Angeles Museum of History, Science and Art in 1961 and moved to its current Wilshire Boulevard site in 1965, LACMA grew into the largest art museum in the western United States, spanning more than 150,000 works from ancient times to the present. Chris Burden's Urban Light, 202 restored antique street lamps arranged at the entrance, and Michael Heizer's 340-ton boulder Levitated Mass have both become landmarks in their own right beyond the galleries. The David Geffen Galleries, a Peter Zumthor-designed building that opened in 2026, now holds up to 3,000 objects from the collection under one roof. LA County residents get in free after three on weekdays, and everyone gets in free on the second Tuesday of the month.
