Western Museum of Flight

The museum traces back to a 1979 volunteer project restoring a Northrop N-3PB Nomad, a World War II reconnaissance bomber pulled from a crash site in Iceland; that restoration led to the museum's opening in 1985. It sits at Zamperini Field, and the collection runs from warbirds and target drones to a YF-23 prototype and a wall of wind tunnel models left from when this stretch of the South Bay held aerospace test facilities. A 1942 Link Trainer and a Bede BD-5 kit plane sit among the engines and instrument panels. It's open Friday through Monday, and a lecture series brings in aerospace veterans to talk through their work.
