Star of India

Built in 1863 on the Isle of Man as an iron-hulled cargo ship named Euterpe, this barque survived a mutiny, a cyclone and a stretch trapped in Alaskan ice before a 1901 refit renamed her Star of India to haul salmon and fishermen to the Bering Sea. The Maritime Museum of San Diego restored her starting in 1957, and she remains the oldest ship in the world that still sails on a regular basis, crewed by volunteers. Visitors can walk her deck, hull and cabins, nearly all original, as part of general admission that also covers the museum's eight other historic vessels along the Embarcadero.
