Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD)

Ellen Browning Scripps's oceanfront home, designed by architect Irving Gill in 1916, became this museum's La Jolla building when it converted into a gallery in 1941. Renamed and expanded several times since, with additions by Mosher and Drew and a 1996 restoration by Venturi, Scott Brown that returned the original Scripps House facade, the building reopened in 2022 after a four-year expansion by Selldorf Architects that added seaside terraces and doubled its square footage. Work by Ellsworth Kelly, Donald Judd, Robert Irwin, and John Baldessari fills the permanent collection.
