Wayfarer Bread & Pastry

Crystal White, who baked at Tartine and Proof Bakery before opening her own spot, runs this bakery in the Bird Rock stretch of La Jolla, marked by little more than a surfboard-shaped sign. Sourdough loaves, croissants and fruit tarts fill the display case each morning, and rotating murals from local artists hang over the indoor seats and the street-facing patio. Sandwiches go out every afternoon, and the pizza nights on Fridays and Saturdays tend to sell out early.
