Broadway Theatre

B.S. Moss opened this as the Colony movie palace in 1924, commissioning architect Eugene De Rosa to build it in the Italian Renaissance style as part of his chain of silent-film houses. The stage was built oversized to fit a full orchestra accompanying the films. It converted to live theater in the 1930s and has stayed in that business since 1940, seating just under 1,800 across the orchestra and two mezzanines. It's one of only five Broadway theaters that actually front the street called Broadway.
