Fieldtrip

Fieldtrip is chef JJ Johnson's fast-casual rice bowl counter, opened in Harlem in 2019 with co-founder Will Sears after Johnson made his name nearby at The Cecil and Minton's. Bowls are built on a rotating base of rice varieties like Texas Brown, China Black and Carolina Gold, one drawing on Thai chiles for a shrimp bowl, another built around braised beef with black beans and turmeric yogurt. A crab pocket appetizer, garlic-herb cream cheese wrapped in a crisp wonton, is a menu regular, and rice-milk soft serve closes things out. Order at the counter; there's nothing precious about the room.
