Yamashiro Hollywood

Brothers Adolph and Eugene Bernheimer built this hillside villa in the 1910s to house their Japanese art collection, bringing over craftsmen from Japan and an architect versed in Asian design. It later served as an exclusive club and, during World War II, a disguised military school meant to quiet spy rumors, before Thomas O. Glover bought it in 1948 and restored the carved wood and silk wallpaper he found underneath, opening it as a restaurant. Fish older than 60 years swim in the koi pond within the garden courtyard, and the dining room looks over the city from the Hollywood Hills.
