A fish-shaped Korean pastry called bungeo-ppang gets filled with a swirl of soft serve at SomiSomi, in flavors like matcha and ube, a combination the chain calls ah-boong. Founder Matt Kim opened the first location in Koreatown in October 2016, after running an earlier Korean dessert cafe, Sul & Beans, and a crepe and waffle shop in San Diego before that. What started as one storefront has since grown into a franchise chain running more than 30 locations nationwide.
