A fish-shaped pastry called bungeo-ppang comes filled with a swirl of soft serve here, in flavors like matcha and ube, a combination SomiSomi calls ah-boong, warm on the outside and cold on the inside. Matt Kim opened the first location in Koreatown on October 21, 2016, after first testing the format with a crepe and waffle shop in San Diego and then Sul & Beans, an earlier Korean dessert cafe of his in Los Angeles. The one storefront built a following fast enough to grow into a franchise chain running more than 30 stores across the country.
