In Hillcrest, Jon Stamatopoulos rescued this bar from redevelopment in 2018, refreshing a space that opened in 1962 as Cosimo's and later took the name Nunu's -- 'grandfather' in Portuguese -- from a fisherman who bought it. He repainted the exterior, fixed the yellow sign and replaced the booth vinyl, while keeping a mid-century rock-embedded wall by the entrance and old photos of local fishermen. Pub grub -- patty melts, pulled pork sandwiches, wings and ribs -- comes out of the kitchen, and a jukebox runs through the Kinks, the Flaming Lips and Nick Drake.
