On University Avenue in Hillcrest, this dive has poured drinks since 1936 and stayed in the Petrone family since Jerry Petrone bought it in 1972 and later passed it to his son Joe Jr. in 1999. It opens at 6 a.m. to regulars -- retired neighbors and golfers who know each other by name -- and dogs are welcome at the patio tables, water dishes included. A mural of a nude woman covers one wall, and the crowd turns younger and rowdier by afternoon.
