Lassen & Hennigs

A delicatessen has anchored Brooklyn Heights since Ted Lassen and Henry Hennigs opened it across Montague Street in 1949. The Calfa family bought the business in 1969 and moved it to its current storefront, and three generations of Calfas still run the counter, slicing pastrami and baking black and white cookies on-site each day. A second location in Dumbo now handles catering, while Montague Street keeps the original grab-and-go deli and bakery.
