El Quijote

Heaping plates of paella, garlic shrimp and lobster in green sauce have come out of the ground floor of the Hotel Chelsea since 1930, making this the city's oldest Spanish restaurant after El Faro closed in 2012. Murals and statues of Don Quixote look down on the room, including a windmill scene uncovered under old paint during a recent restoration. Andy Warhol held court at a table here, often with William S. Burroughs, and Janis Joplin is said to have caused a scene more than once.
