Shane Davis and Francis Harris opened Public Records in 2017 inside Gowanus's former ASPCA headquarters, preserving as much of the original building as they could and filling gaps with reclaimed materials from local businesses. The complex now holds five rooms, including a restaurant and music lounge, a club-grade Sound Room, and an intimate cocktail lounge upstairs. The kitchen serves entirely plant-based dishes: a kelp XO wonton in shiitake dashi, a wild mushroom larb, and a koji burger built on a housemade mushroom patty.
