Sac's Place

A family from Orsogna, in Abruzzo, opened Sac's Place as a small pizzeria on Broadway and 29th Street in 1989, then grew it into a full Italian restaurant in Astoria by 1998. The coal-fired oven turns out a crisp, chewy crust under sweet San Marzano sauce, and the kitchen also runs its own ravioli, including a roasted red pepper version and one stuffed with lobster and crab. A seasonal Pizza Garden opens out back when the weather holds, an option indoor tables don't have.
