The ballroom on Cesar Chavez Avenue has been a dance hall, a home for Latin orchestras and Chicano rock, and a punk venue before a shooting shut it down and left it boarded up for decades. A renovation starting in 2010 reopened it as The Paramount, now booking 15 to 20 shows a month under a local DJ's eclectic lineup. Brooklyn Ave. Pizza runs the kitchen alongside bar food like jalapeño mac and cheese, and the bar pours cocktails named for the neighborhood, including a Boyle Heights Iced Tea.
