A thin slab of granite juts out 14 feet over open air about 100 feet below the summit of Mount Woodson, cantilevered enough that a line forms for the photo of someone standing on the tip. The 7.2-mile round trip from Lake Poway climbs roughly 2,100 feet through chaparral and boulder fields, exposed the whole way with little shade. A 2017 April Fools' prank by Poway's mayor, claiming the rock would be demolished, went viral and only added to the crowds. On a clear day the summit view stretches past Lake Poway to the Pacific.
