Blue Ocean / Harumama

Husband-and-wife restaurateurs James and Jenny Pyo opened this dual concept above La Jolla Cove in October 2019, in a 5,783-square-foot space that once housed The Hake. Harumama occupies the front of the room with ramen, noodle bowls, and character-shaped steamed buns, while Blue Ocean's sushi bar sits oceanfront at the back, its menu changing with the season and the morning's catch. A full bar backs the ocean view. The restaurant is first come, first served (no reservations), though private parties of fifteen to thirty-five can be arranged by email.
