In Barrio Logan, Por Vida opened in November 2015 inside a building its owners, Carolina Santana and Milo Lorenzana, also use for a record store, a salon and artist studios. Local art rotates through the room every six months or so: a painting of La Virgen de Guadalupe, a Frida Kahlo piece on glass, images of Chicano Park and lowriders. Drinks build on childhood flavors, from a canela and brown sugar latte to a horchata cold brew and tajín-rimmed aguas frescas like a spicy watermelon limonada. Monthly flea markets and coffee latte-art throwdowns have also run out of the shop.
