Narrows Botanical Garden

Local landscape designer James Johnson and neighbor Joan Regan started this garden in 1995 by clearing roughly four and a half acres of derelict, overgrown parkland between the Belt Parkway and Shore Road, using plants donated by local nurseries and water hauled in by the fire department. Volunteers have kept expanding it since into around seventeen distinct gardens, including a lily pond, a butterfly garden, and a Zen garden. A native plant garden with a turtle sanctuary sits at the north end, open only by appointment or on scheduled visit days.
