Jesse Malin, a musician who was friends with Joe Strummer, opened Niagara in 1997 at the corner of Avenue A and Seventh Street. Its side wall carries a mural of Strummer in sunglasses and a leather jacket, repainted several times since 2003 after the original faded, with a line from The Clash's "Know Your Rights" painted underneath. Inside it's a straightforward dive with indoor and outdoor seating, rail whiskey, craft beer, and happy hour pricing on drafts and well drinks.
