Astoria Park

Nearly 60 acres under the Triborough and Hell Gate bridges in Queens make up this park. Its pool opened in 1936, one of eleven the WPA built that summer, and at 330 by 165 feet it was the largest of them, built for 5,570 bathers. Administrator Harry Hopkins called it "the finest in the world" at the dedication, and it hosted U.S. Olympic swimming trials in 1936 and 1964 before landmarking in 2006. The park also has a running track, fourteen tennis courts, a bocce court and a skatepark, plus a ferry stop added in 2017.
