A granddaughter of John D. Rockefeller Sr. gave the city this park in 1971, built from three combined lots that once held a store, a garage, and part of a synagogue. A twenty-five-foot waterfall over sculpted granite rocks anchors the three-level space, screened from 51st Street by a short flight of stairs that keeps most passersby from ever noticing it's there. Honey locust trees, ivy walls and movable cafe tables fill in the rest, and it's free to enter, April through December.
