An outrigger canoe hangs from the thatched ceiling of the main dining room, over bamboo booths, rattan walls, a saltwater aquarium and murals copied from Eugene Savage's Deco-era Hawaii art. The steakhouse opened on Central Avenue in 1937 and moved to Brand in 1980. Prime rib is served Friday through Sunday only, next to filets, coconut-fried shrimp and the house Mai Tai and Chi Chi, both sweetened with an orgeat the bar calls its secret sauce. If you only want a drink, the back bar fills with people watching sports.
