Tom Bergin’s

Lawyer Tom Bergin opened the original on Wilshire in 1936, inspired by his family's taverns in Boston, and moved it into this Tudor Revival building on Fairfax in 1949. The horseshoe bar is still wrapped in the old wood paneling, and thousands of cardboard shamrocks hang from the ceiling, each carrying a regular's name; staff nominate and vote on who gets one. Irish coffee is the house drink, as the shamrock-shaped sign has said since the 1950s.
