A five-hundred-foot wood pier here gave way to storm damage in 1913 and was rebuilt the following year in concrete, paved with asphalt along its full thousand-foot length. Small tiled pavilions line the sides for shade, and the auditorium building near the entrance has held public restrooms, a lifeguard station and a branch of the county library.
