Barnsdall Park

Aline Barnsdall gave this hilltop to the city in 1926, along with the olive grove planted here in the 1890s; only about 90 of the original 1,225 trees survived by the early 1990s, and a foundation has been replanting since 2021. The Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery, a 10,000-square-foot space built in 1971, mounts roughly nine exhibitions a year at the park's edge, and the Junior Arts Center runs its own gallery alongside. On summer Fridays the lawn opens for Wine Nights, with food trucks, DJ sets and city views, gates at 5:30pm, 21 and over.
