The bay stays calm and surf-free, and paddlers regularly spot dolphins, sea turtles, seals and seasonal moon jellies alongside the canal's waterfront homes. A popular route runs through the Rivo Alto Canal under the Second Street and Appian Way bridges to Mother's Beach, where a cafe sits right on the sand. Everyone paddling needs to know how to swim.
