Marie’s Tek Tec

A converted shipping container in the backyard of Roxanne's Cocktail Lounge in Long Beach's California Heights holds Marie's Tek Tec, a tiki bar built around Latin American spirits and Mesoamerican imagery instead of the usual rum-and-tropical-fruit formula. Every cocktail comes with a short story from the bartender about its ingredients or history — a green piña-colada riff called La Isla Verde, or a drink combining Mexican hot chocolate and Irish coffee called Mamo's Chocolate. Sunday brunch runs 11 to 5, alongside a regular menu of wings, steak and fries, and skewers.
