Three architects from RAD Lab built Quartyard from stacked shipping containers on an East Village parking lot in 2015, then moved the whole concept to its current publicly owned lot on Market Street in 2018 after the original site sold to a housing developer. El Comal, the North Park Mexican restaurant Noel and Luz Herrera opened in 2001, runs the food side, alongside Seahorse Coffee and a craft beer garden. The open-air lot hosts live music, public art installations, and a rotating calendar of community events and markets. It closes Mondays and Tuesdays, with hours set around whatever is scheduled that day.
