Bluewater Boathouse occupies a four-story Queen Anne building built in 1887 as a prototype for the Hotel del Coronado across the street, then repurposed as the hotel's own boathouse for guests' daysailers and fishing boats. Scripps Institution of Oceanography ran its first headquarters out of the second floor in 1903, and the Coronado Yacht Club later used it as a clubhouse before it became a restaurant, running as Chart House for over three decades starting in 1968. Fresh seafood now comes out of the kitchen to tables set over Glorietta Bay, alongside a waterfront patio and a full bar.
