Thomas Cucco opened Table 87 at 87 Atlantic Avenue in 2012, when that stretch of the street was still fairly empty, serving Brooklyn's first coal-fired pizza by the slice. The original room held about 20 people, and pizza waits stretched to 90 minutes on busy nights. Cucco later took over the office next door, adding a second coal oven, 70 more seats, and a 23-tap bar pouring mostly local beer, which cut the wait for a pie down to half an hour. The combined space seats up to 90 and can be reserved for birthday parties and other group occasions.
