Residents of Welling Court, led by Jonathan Ellis, asked the graffiti gallery Ad Hoc Art to help them cover their block in murals after growing tired of tagging in the neighborhood; the project launched in May 2010 with the streets radiating outward from a center point like spokes on a wheel. Artists who've painted here include Lady Pink, Swoon, Crash, and Daze, and large-scale pieces are added every year. The murals are outdoors on public streets in Astoria and free to see any time, a 10 to 15 minute walk from the Astoria-Ditmars Boulevard station.
