Since 1969, a dock in Marina del Rey has held The Warehouse Restaurant, built by Hollywood cameraman Burt Hixson as a deliberately fake shipwreck fantasy -- barrels and crates shipped in from Holland, Spain, Italy and Japan, and a roughly 45,000-gallon lagoon out front that guests cross on a rope-railed wooden dock to reach the door. The Wharf Bar pours mai tais near hanging woven baskets upstairs, while downstairs booths sit inside what look like shipping crates. A live band now plays yacht rock on Thursdays, reggae on Wednesdays and salsa on Fridays.
