The gym takes its name from Reyner Banham's Los Angeles: The Architecture of Four Ecologies, which mapped the flat stretch around Culver City as the Plains of Id; swapping in Cliffs made an easy fit for a climbing gym that opened there in 2015. A winged robot logo, hand-inked before it was digitized, nods to the mid-century futurism Southern California's film and TV industry once promised the country. Inside, 25,000 square feet split close to evenly between rope climbing and bouldering, with routes running up a 40-foot lead wall, plus a weight room, yoga classes and a dry sauna rounding out the space.
