The Original Red Onion

This location opened August 20, 1963 as a third Red Onion outpost on what was then Silver Spur Road; the family later had the frontage renamed Bart Earle Way, after the founder, in 2013. Jeff Earle took over from his father in 1996 and still cooks from recipes his great-grandmother Catalina Castillo used to feed miners at an Arizona dining counter in the early 1900s. The dining room keeps wood-beamed ceilings and red linens alongside autographed menus and photos of celebrity guests like Pete Carroll and Richard Nixon. Order the jalapeño margaritas and the house salsa that comes with warm chips; staff here have stayed 20 to 30 years, and some diners come back multiple times a week.
