The Hockney and Twombly pieces on the walls are originals: Michael McCarty and his wife Kim, a painter, have hung work by local artists here since he opened the restaurant in 1979, at 25. Tables run through the planted garden as well as the dining room, and the wine list carries bottles from McCarty's own Malibu vineyard. He still comes by tables to ask how the evening is going.
