Architect David Rockwell filled the old L'Orangerie space on La Cienega with red and black tones and reed partitions when Nobu Los Angeles opened there in 2008, a few blocks from the original Matsuhisa restaurant that gave the sushi chain its start in 1987. Nobuyuki Matsuhisa's black cod marinated in miso and a yellowtail sashimi topped with a lozenge of jalapeno are still on the menu, and pastry chef Gabriele Riva makes the dessert list, including a whiskey iced cappuccino.
